Hey Folks,

This edition of the National Solo Notes is an overview of the 2021 Tire Rack SCCA ProSolo program, including rules, classes, index factors, and Finale eligibility. The details will be in the 2021 ProSolo (PS) rules that will be posted in 10 days or less on the SCCA website.

While at this point we have a full schedule of PS events with a reasonable geographic spread, the lesson of 2020 was that very few things are set in stone. We have all seen various motorsports and other types of events across the country and the world scheduled for 2021 rescheduled or canceled due to the lingering impact of CV19. While there are big differences between spectator events and SCCA Club events on how they might be impacted by CV19, the underlying factor is the ever-present uncertainty on the health and safety front.

Therefore, due to this uncertainty of which events will be conducted and the inherit unfairness of anything remotely approaching equal access for all members if events are cancelled in a particular part of the country, the 2021 PS program will be a collection of individual events with a winner takes all Championship Finale event. It is expected that the PS Series will return in 2022. This is the first and most significant component of the coming season’s philosophy of Wash, Rinse, Repeat where 2020 was effectively a pre-season for the 2021 season.

The other aspect of this philosophy is that the 2021 PS program will use the 2020 rules, classes, and index factors as there simply was not enough data and experience to justify any changes. The only exception MIGHT be some procedural rule changes to address some process changes. Again, details will be in the soon to be published rules.

The Championship Finale will have an entry cap of 275. That limit could be increased at a later if event operations efficiencies during the season warrant. Finale registration will open on the following dates:

  • Tier 1: Wednesday, August 11 (SuperPass holders on Aug 9)
  • Tier 2: Wednesday, August 18 (SuperPass holders on Aug 16)
  • Tier 3: Wednesday, August 25 (SuperPass holders on Aug 23)

The Championship Finale Tier Eligibility will be as follows:

  • Tier 1
    • 2021 and 2020 Super/Ladies Challenge Winners
    • 2021 Event Class Winners
  • Tier 2
    • Members that ran two (2) 2021 PS events
    • 2020 Event Class Winners
    • 2019 ProSolo Series Class Champions
    • 2019 ProSolo Series Super/Ladies Challenge Champions and Finalists (2nd and 3rd)
  • Tier 3
    • Members that ran one (1) 2021 PS event

The special ProSolo 1 (PS-1) being conducted on Feb 13 will NOT count for eligibility for the Championship Finale.

We appreciate the continuing support of the ProSolo program in these difficult and uncertain times.

Thanks!!

H.
